Awareness Program on Uplifting O/L Maths Results for Principals and Maths Teachers of the Schools, Where Last Year's O/L Maths Results was Low

According to the 👉letter dated, the above said program has been scheduled to conduct on 2017/08/01 @ Zahira NS (Azver Hall)  8.30 AM on wards. The following topics have been focused to be discussed
1. Maintaining an effective term marks schedule 
2. Setting target with a meaningful result analysis
3. Identifying relevant materials for arranging remedial programs 
4. Introducing Essential Learning Concepts (ELC) 
5. Empowering parents for their children's effective learning

In this program, some soft learning materials prepared by us and NIE will be given to principals in CD forms for their easy access.

2017 Mathematics Results Increasing Program in Puttalam Zone

For the above purpose, we have decided to issue ELC (what is ELC? 👉 S/T) -based question papers in all six themes. Papers will be issued to schools with covering all the students. The first set of papers in Numbers and Algebra themes will be available on 9th of July.

Zonal Mathematics Quiz Contest for Grades 6 to 10 - 2017

According to our 👉letter dated 2017/07/03 and the ministry circular-2017/18 👉(S/T), the above contest has been arranged and to be held on 2017/07/15 in P/Zahira NS from 9.00 AM onwards. Therefore, it is necessary to send us the details(name & no.of students) of students in grades 7 to 11, who got 95 or more marks in 1st term mathematics paper as soon as possible. The test will be conducted in written form.
Mathematics Pretest1 for Grade 11 Students

The above said test will be conducted in all the secondary schools in our zone on 29th of June, 2017. The papers must be issued to students on this day and they must be marked, analyzed and discussed with students. After discussing with students, take necessary actions to issue the unanswered paper(blank papers) once again to all the students to find whether students achieved the level. Issuing Mathematics Modules for Slow Learners 

Special modules prepared by MOE collaboratively with NIE has been released by MOE. This modules have been prepared based on ELC (Essential Learning Concepts). The main purpose of issuing these modules are to be used for remedial teaching for slow learners, who can be diagnosed through term test/pretests or any other tests done by schools. The remedial teaching program for those identified slow learners must be conducted after school hour.

Special Workshop for the Principals and Maths Teachers from the Schools, which Produced Low Maths Results in the Last O/L Exam 

According to the letter dated 2017/05/04 the special workshop for principals and maths teachers of the schools, which produced very low maths results in last year's O/L exam is to be conducted in due course. This program will be parallel to the SLIDA workshop, which was organized for divisional level principals.
Grade 6 Maths Olympiad Competition

According to the letters dated 2017/04/03 and 2017/04/26, grade 6 maths Olympiad competition will be held on 6th (Saturday) of this month (May) from 9.00 am to 10.00 am. One-hour paper will be issued in all three mediums. (Papers can be downloaded here👉 S/T/E). 

Necessary arrangements must be done by the schools and the exam must be conducted under the supervision and guidance of principals. Answer papers must be collected immediately after the exam, packed well and submitted to the relevant divisional offices on 8th (Monday) before 10.00 am for the instant evaluation process. Evaluation will be done by maths unit of zonal office and the best performed 100 students in zonal level will be selected for the provincial level.

Very important: Since this test is conducted island-wide at the same time, the date and the time of exam can never be changed.

N.B: Marking is done in relevant divisions (see 👉scheme). The best 100 students list will be produced for provincial level competition. Those selected students will be informed in due course.

Puttalam student Fathima Rimza has been selected for Training Pool of National Mathematics Olympiad - 2017

         According to the final list published by MOE, the Grade 8 Student from P/Fathima BMV, Puttalam, M.R.F.Rimza has been selected for Training Pool of National Mathematics Olympiad - 2017 from category II . She is the only one from Puttalam zone and one of only five students from whole Wayamba province to be selected in this category. We congratulate for her great achievement.

Appreciation program for well-performed teachers and students in the last GCE O/L examination

      According to the letter dated 2017/03/04, the above said program will be held on the month of May. Those teachers, who have produced very good results in the last year's O/L exam and the students, who have got A grades in Mathematics will be honored. Therefore, it is necessary to send relevant students'(who got A grades) names with initials in English block capital letters very soon. The schools, which fail to send the relevant details on time will not be considered for the above program. Please go through the above said letter for further details or contact ADE (Maths) or your relevant ISA's.

Maths Olympiad competition for grade 6 students:

    According to the letter(click here) dated 03/04/2017 sent through pay sheets, the above competition will be held school level on 06/05/2017. Papers will be printed and distributed to schools through relevant divisions. Since competition will be conducted school level, appropriate actions such as informing and preparing students for competition, hall arrangements, hall supervision and collecting the answer scripts & keeping them confidential, must be taken by schools. 

      Answer scripts must be submitted to the relevant divisional offices as soon as possible for the timely evaluation process that will be conducted in a common place with maths teachers as assessors. Eventually, best performed 100 students will be selected for the provincial level competition. Importantly, principals are required to send the details as asked in the letter immediately for making necessary arrangements. Monthly Test for January

Maths monthly test for grades 6-11 will be held on 2017/02/23 zonal-wise. The papers have been posted to all the relevant schools with only one copy of each paper. Measures must be taken to issue the papers to all the students by copying it or writing in black/white boards. The duration of the test is 40 minutes and they must be checked and discussed as soon as possible. Analysis can be done according to the below shown chart and it must be filed for the supervision purpose.

The principals are requested to arrange remedial classes for those, who scored less than or equal to 35 marks. The papers can be downloaded by clicking 👉Sinhala/Tamil.

Maths Diagnostic Test (අනාවරණ පරීක්ෂණය/கணித ஆய்ந்தறி சோதனை) for grades 6 and 11

Maths diagnostic tests for grades 6 & 11 conducted collaboratively by zonal and provincial offices were held in all the relevant schools in our zone with grade 6 paper was issued on 9th of March and 11 paper was on 11th of March. The papers were prepared in both mediums and can be downloaded by clicking here 👉 6-Sinhala/Tamil, 11-Sinhala/Tamil. After conducting the tests, the papers must be corrected as soon as possible, analyzed with the following formats (for 11-Sinhala/Tamil, for 6-Sinhala/Tamil) and maintained in separate files for future uses.  Principals must take proper actions for increasing achievement level of slow learners.
