Mathematics Pretest for grade 10 & 11

 The tests aimed to diagnose children's maths achievements in grade 10 & 11 and to give them a pre-experience of upcoming GCE (O/L) examination, was held across our zonal schools on 18th of October. The papers can be downloaded in the following links:

Maths teacher quality circle for grade 11 teachers - 2022

The program was arranged in the following manner:

2022.10.14: For Anamaduwa/Pallama divisional teachers held in Anamaduwa TC

2022.10.17: For all the Tamil medium teachers held in Zahira NS

2022.10.19: For Puttalam North, South and Kalpitiya Sinhala medium teachers in St. Andrew's MV

Maths Quality Circle on Remedial Program - 2021

Focusing on remedial teaching for low performing grade 11 students, this session was arranged in P/Teacher Centre on 2021.04.07 and on 2021.07.08 in Anamaduwa MMV.

Main theme of the program was to discuss on remedial teaching for the low performing students in grade 11. The materials given below were reminded as resource materials for the program. With the analysis of last held term test results, the teachers were also advised to identify needy students and to start remedial program as early as possible.

School Mathematics Club

Maths clubs are dedicated extra-curricular maths get togethers that breathe new life into maths beyond the classroom. Objectives of a maths club are;
  1. Encourage a positive attitude towards mathematics.
  2. Stimulate mathematical curiosity.
  3. Promote cross-curricular thinking and the holistic development of pupils.
  4. Study maths beyond the classroom and allow pupils to see maths as an integral part of their lives.
  5. Develop a healthy interest in mathematics as a source of interest and achievement.

"Draw on the Wall with Maths" Drawing Competition - 2020

The above competition is supposed to be conducted to uplift student's awareness on mathematics through their aesthetic skills. This competition is mainly focused on 6-11 grade students but they must participate in the competition through their school maths society. The relevant application and instruction can be obtained in Development Unit of Zonal Education Office or by downloading here👉(S/T). The closing date of the competition is 2020.05.15.

Maths Remedial Programs

Principals are advised to commence maths remedial program for grades 6-11 as soon as possible. the program must be conducted for the students, who scored less than 40 marks in the 3rd term of last year examination. As resource materials of this program, "Easy Maths"(for 6-11) and " ELC Modules" (for 10-11) and revision papers for 9, 10 & 11 are much recommended. Mathematics Olympiad Competition for Grade 6 (Written Test)

Grade 6 Olympiad competition will be held on 2020.03.12 (Thu) at 9.00AM-10.00AM in school level. Papers can be collected in relevant divisional offices on 2020.03.11. Top scorers in the zonal level will be selected for the provincial level competition that is scheduled to be held on 2020.05.09. Maths Teacher Seminar - 2019

A seminar for grade 11 maths teachers has been arranged on 02/10/2019 in P/Zahira National School from 8.30 am onward. The letter(S/T) regarding the program has been sent to schools and all the grade 11 teachers are required to participate.

Grade 11 - Pretest 2


Maths Pretest2 (S/T/E) for grade 11 students was held provincial-wise on 3rd of October,2019 in each and every secondary schools. Papers for the test were issued in Maths-Teacher session that was conducted in Zahira NS.

The papers must be corrected, analyzed and discussed with students without delay. Use analysis format to get the marks analyzed and submit to the divisional offices as soon as possible. Click the links to download the answer scheme and the analysis format.

Due to the pretest, the special maths papers for this week, scheduled on 2019.10.01 & 2019.10.04 were not held.

Two Students from Anamaduwa Central College Have Been Selected for National Quiz Competition-2019

Two grade 9 students namely WMW.Prabath Warnasooriya securing 1st place and RHM.Irantha Mihiranga securing 4th place of Anamaduwa Central College have been selected for the National Level Quiz competition to be held later this month of September. Both had scored top marks in the Zonal Competition conducted in 5th of September and in Provincial Competition held in 9th of September. A special training session has been arranged for the national level-selected students on 14th of September in Gettuwana MV, Kurunegala. 
          "We congratulate the both students on this wonderful moment of success."

Special Teacher Training for Tamil Medium Mathematics Teachers - 2019

The Provincial Department of Education has organized a Tamil medium math teacher training on 2019.09.16 and 17 in "Subashana Mandiraya" in Provincial Department premises. Some teachers from our zonal schools have been selected for the training and they will be notified in due course.

Provincial Maths Quiz Competition - 2019

The provincial maths quiz competition for the year of 2019 will be held on 2019.09.09 (Monday) in Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala.

The zonal team to participate in the provincial contest has been selected from the Zonal Quiz Competition, held in P/St.Andrew's CC for Sinhala Medium and in P/Hindu CC for Tamil medium students on 2019.09.02 from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm. The relevant students have been informed through school administrations and their name list can be viewed here.

Continuous Evaluation of Grade 11 Students with ELC Based Tests

Under the above theme, ELC based question papers will be issued to every grade 11 students in our zone as two papers per week until 3rd term examination. The program has been scheduled as shown in the below chart. (Click on the links near the given dates to download the papers)

Zonal do you know contest - 2019

Zonal do you know contest for the year of 2019 will be held on 2019/09/05 @ 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm in  P/St.Andrew's MMV for Sinhala medium students and in P/Hindu CC for Tamil medium students. Relevant details in this regard, have been sent to relevant schools.

From grades 6 to 10 students will be allowed to sit for the competition. Grades 6-8 are called junior division and 9 and 10 are called senior division.

For every student, 3 types of papers will be given and the total duration of the test is 1 hour. The papers are highly based on relevant syllabuses and some models can be downloaded here 👉(S/T).

Mathematics Do You Know Contest for Grades 6-10 - 2018


According to the letter dated 2018/07/09, the above contest has been arranged on 2018/07/14 @ P/Fathima BMV, Puttalam, starting at 9.00 am and letters have been sent to selected schools. 

A written test will be conducted with separate papers for each grades in both medium and it will be of one-hour duration. The question papers will be based on the syllabus covering first and second terms of relevant grades. 

Through above test, 2 students per grade will be selected in grades 6-8 representing junior level and 3 students per grade in grades 9 & 10 representing senior level. Those selected students will be sent for provincial level competition to be held on coming days.

According to the letter dated 2018.06.01, the first meeting of Anamaduwa/Pallama divisional maths teachers' meeting was held in Anamaduwa TC on 2018.06.11 from 8.30AM. Maths teacher capacity building program for newly appointed and low performing school teachers


According to the letter dated 2018/05/02 the above program has been conducted separately for both mediums. Sinhala medium program was held in P/St.Andrew's MV on 2018.05.11. The program started from 8.30am onwards. As the program was arranged for all the Sinhala medium teachers in our zone, altogether fifty eight teachers and teacher resource persons participated.


The program was mainly focused on sharing knowledge and experience by senior teachers for newly appointed ones and some methodologies followed by Singaporean teachers were also shared. Explanation on remedial teaching through ELC and ELC modules with various materials introduced by NIE were also discussed with newly appointed teachers.

Treasure hunting and other activity based teaching methods were also presented with grouping teachers. The structure of question paper was also explained with the presentation.

While Tamil medium is scheduled on 2018.05.14 in P/Zahira NS from 8.30 AM to 4.00 PM. Our experienced mathematics teachers have been invited here to share their knowledge and experience with their junior teachers so that junior ones can perform well in the upcoming general exams.
